Pioneering Modern Furniture and Design

In addition to his architectural achievements, Aalto was also a significant furniture designer, famous for his bent plywood chairs, such as the Paimio Chair, which was designed for the sanatorium. His work with plywood led to advancements in modern furniture design, including his iconic Aalto Vase, originally designed for the 1937 Paris World Fair. This vase, also known as the Savoy Vase, with its undulating form reminiscent of Finnish lakes, became a staple of modernist interior design and is still in production today by Iittala.
