Stålhane began studying the art of ceramics at the Rörstrand Porcelain Factory in 1939 and after passing various work tests, he was employed by Rörstrand to paint faience. At Rörstrand he also assisted the renowned artist Isaac Grünewald who produced unique hand-painted artware for Rörstrand. Together the two artists created a variety of unique painted vases, bowls, and dishes during the 1940s.
In the latter half of the 1940s, Stålhane continued his studies abroad but soon returned to Rörstrand where he began working with more of a classic stoneware with Chinese influence. He later replaced Gunnar Nylund as the artistic director.

Works and Achievements

His pieces usually bear the signature CHS, indicating they are mass-produced. Unique and studio productions were signed CH Stålhane in cursive. The studio pieces also had the addition "atelier," and these are not as sought after as the true unique pieces, which also had a date. Often, these pieces also came with a paper certificate confirming that it was a unique artware.
Carl-Harry Stålhane's items have become very popular in recent years, particularly his graceful vases in black, brown, and green glazes. Collectors mainly seek the unique pieces, but even some of his mass-produced items have increased in value.
During his time at Rörstrand, Carl-Harry Stålhane also worked as a teacher in glass and ceramics at the School of Arts and Crafts in Gothenburg from 1963 to 1971.
